Founder's Legacy

Hon. Justice Olatokunbo John Bamgbose was a distinguished legal practitioner, jurist, and visionary whose life embodied excellence, integrity, and service. Born on April 3, 1960, in Ibadan, he demonstrated intellectual curiosity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to justice from a young age.

Called to the Bar in 1982 after graduating from the University of Lagos, he began his career under Chief Olisa Chukwura. In January 1992, he founded O.J. Bamgbose & Co. Legal Practitioners & Notary Public, now Olatokunbo Bamgbose LP, building a firm grounded in professionalism, ethical practice, and mentorship.

The Justice Olatokunbo Bamgbose Foundation

As a natural extension of the firm’s values and legacy, The Justice Olatokunbo Bamgbose Foundation was established by Olatokunbo Bamgbose LP to promote access to education and social equity.

The Foundation is dedicated to supporting indigent primary and secondary school students by providing scholarships and educational assistance to children who demonstrate potential but lack the financial means to pursue formal education. Through this initiative, the Foundation seeks to address educational inequality and empower young minds to build meaningful futures.

Education is viewed by the Foundation as a powerful instrument of justice; one that equips individuals with knowledge, confidence, and the ability to participate fully in society. By investing in the education of underserved children, the Foundation contributes to long-term community development and social transformation. The Justice Olatokunbo Bamgbose Foundation operates with a strong sense of purpose, transparency, and compassion, reflecting the same principles of integrity and service that define the law firm from which it was birthed.

Founder's Legacy

Hon. Justice Olatokunbo John Bamgbose was a distinguished legal practitioner, jurist, and visionary whose life embodied excellence, integrity, and service. Born on April 3, 1960, in Ibadan, he demonstrated intellectual curiosity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to justice from a young age.

Called to the Bar in 1982 after graduating from the University of Lagos, he began his career under Chief Olisa Chukwura. In January 1992, he founded O.J. Bamgbose & Co. Legal Practitioners & Notary Public, now Olatokunbo Bamgbose LP, building a firm grounded in professionalism, ethical practice, and mentorship.
Hon. Justice Bamgbose was widely respected for his scholarly contributions to the legal profession. He authored four (4) volumes of the Digest of the Judgments of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (January 1969 – December 2012).

He served as Editor-in-Chief for nine (9) volumes of the Family Law Reports of Nigeria, leaving a lasting intellectual legacy. His research works further reflected his deep engagement with law and society, including The Rights of the Girl-Child within the Nigerian Socio-Cultural Framework, Appropriate Strategies in the Handling of Litigation by Local Governments, Social Work and the Law, Mentoring: The Long-Sought Solution to Family Violence, “Victim”: A Peep into the Relationship Between Family Violence and Adolescent Health, Rights and Obligations of Parents in Respect of Their Children, and The Adoption Practice, Process and Regulatory Provisions in Oyo State: Attitudinal Stance of Residents of Ibadan Metropolis.

His professional standing extended beyond practice and scholarship. He was a member of the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD), a Fellow of the SalzburgSeminar, Austria (Session 366: Urban Youth, 1999), and a Notary Public for Nigeria. On December 7, 2016, he was sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Ogun State, where he served with distinction until his passing. On the Bench, he was known for his fairness, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering respect for the rule of law. Beyond the courtroom, he was deeply committed to community development and governance, serving as Trustee of the Centre for Youth, Family and the Law (CYFL), Grace Leadership Foundation (GLF), and the Centre for Sustainable
Rural Development (CESRUD).


A man of strong character and quiet strength, Hon. Justice Bamgbose was defined by his diligence, integrity, and devotion to the cause of justice. He was thorough, honest, and deeply committe —a refined and respectful gentleman whose simplicity and humility set him apart. Endowed with a powerful intellect and great learning, he combined courage, wisdom, compassion, and sound judgment in both his professional and personal life. He was humane, soft-spoken, and approachable, yet resolute in upholding justice without fear, favour, affection, or ill-will.

He took a genuine interest in the growth and success of others, offering guidance, mentorship, and encouragement with a cheerful and welcoming disposition. His contributions extended beyond the courtroom through his writings and thought leadership, which sought to strengthen social order and
promote justice within society. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a devoted husband to Prof. Oluyemisi Adefunke Bamgbose, SAN, and a loving father, whose guidance extended to his children, grandchildren, colleagues, and mentees.

He was also a devoted Christian and served as an Elder in the Glory Tabernacle Ministry, Bodija, Ibadan Justice Bamgbose’s life exemplified diligence, wisdom, and compassion. He championed social justice, supported the less privileged, and instilled in the firm’s culture a commitment to excellence and ethical practice. His vision, mentorship, and unwavering principles continue to guide Olatokunbo Bamgbose LP, ensuring his legacy remains a cornerstone of the firm’s identity.

The Hon. Justice Olatokunbo John Bamgbose Foundation was established to honour his life, legacy, and enduring values. The Foundation carries forward his vision by promoting excellence and mentorship, providing scholarships and educational support to indigent students, advancing social equity, and empowering young minds to build meaningful futures.

It seeks to uplift young legal professionals, support education and social welfare initiatives, and champion causes that reflect the principles he stood for. Through the Foundation, his life continues to inspire, guiding future generations to uphold integrity, diligence, and service to society.
